Spirit is the debut album by British singer Leona Lewis, released by Syco Music in November 2007 in the United Kingdom and Ireland, followed by a worldwide release in early 2008. After winning the third series of the reality singing competition The X Factor in December 2006, Lewis began recording the album in Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States, working with a variety of writers and producers. Critics praised the album for the creation of a contemporary album with a variety of manufacturers, and for showcasing Lewis's voice, but criticized his "lack of personality." The launch of the album marked Lewis as the first winner of a TV talent both in the United Kingdom and the United States to provide a major global launch with its debut album.

The album debuted at number one in nine countries including the UK, USA and Germany, and a peak in the top five in eight countries. It held the record for the biggest digital album sales a week each time for a new artist. It was the sixth biggest selling album of 2008 in the world, since, according to IFPI. [2] It has sold over seven million copies worldwide, [3] and was the fourth biggest selling album of the 2000s in the UK [4], where he has since sold more than 3 million copies. [5]

Spirit gave rise to seven singles, two of them a re-release the album. International Lead single "Bleeding Love" went to the charts of 34 countries, making it one of the best selling singles by a woman of all time. He was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Record of the Year at the Grammy Awards 51st and Best British Single at the BRIT Awards 2008. Follow-single "Better in Time" also performed well in the Top Ten in thirteen countries and reaching number eleven in the U.S.. After a well received performance of Snow Patrol "Run", while promoting Spirit, Lewis recorded a studio version for the re-release of the album, Spirit - The Deluxe Edition, which was released as a download single only the UK, which went to number one, to move to the third single from the Spirit of platinum, after a single X-Factor winner "A Moment Like This" and "Bleeding Love" ser.zijn.
